INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR STRAWBERRY BANANA OATMEAL SMOOTHIE

Making a smoothies entails the following ingredients;

  • A frozen banana and strawberries : The banana serves as a frozen ingredient instead of ice, which helps keep the smoothie from getting watered down as the ice melts. The smoothie works just as well with non-frozen bananas or frozen strawberries.
  • Milk and Oats: You can use your favorite versions, or whatever you have on hand. No need to buy something special. Any milk and oatmeal works just fine.
  • Vanilla extract: It pairs so well with the sweet, fresh flavors of the strawberry and banana. It also adds extra depth to the smoothie with its sweetness and warmth.

HOW TO MAKE BANANA STRAWBERRY OATMEAL SMOOTHIE.

Making this smoothie is really simple and goes like this;

  • Add the ingredients to a blender and blend
    All you need to do to make this smoothie is add all ingredients to the blender or smoothie maker or food processor. Blend them together for about 20-30 seconds, until smooth. The ingredient list for this smoothie is so simple; frozen banana slices, strawberry slices, vanilla extract, oats, and milk, there is no need to worry too much about the order you add them to the blender. You can add them in any order.
  • Pour and serve the smoothie
    When the smoothie is well-blended, the ingredients blended will give you enough to serve two drinks. Simply pour the liquid evenly between two glasses and enjoy!

ADD-INS AND VARIATIONS

Here are some ideas to give this simple smoothie a new twist;

  • Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt: Turn this breakfast into a desert by adding some strawberry ice cream or frozen yogurt. You may need to add a little extra milk to help thin it out, though it can be scooped up with a spoon too.
  • Dairy-Free: With a simple switch to plant-based milk, this recipe becomes both vegan and dairy-free. Use oat milk, soy, coconut or almond to achieve this.
  • Use of other Berries: You can swap the strawberries out entirely or go on a mixed-berry adventure. Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries can be added or exchanged in any combination.

TIPS

With a recipe so simple, there’s really no way for things to go wrong. Follow these tips to make your smoothie even better.

  • Add Yoghurt: You can replace some or all of the milk with yoghurt to keep the smoothie from getting too runny if not using frozen bananas.
  • Add Honey: If you’re using frozen or off-season strawberries, adding a drizzle of honey is a healthy way to sneak in a little extra sweetness. Honey isn’t just a sweetener, it’s loaded with health benefits, too!
  • Add Ice: If you want a thickener, try adding a bit of ice. You could also try adding frozen yogurt.

CAN I MAKE THIS SMOOTHIE AHEAD OF TIME?

If you want a smoothie that lasts longer, go for the slightly harder fresh-berries and yoghurt option from the list of tips above. The version made with frozen strawberries will get runny overnight, even in the fridge. If you decide to save your smoothie so it’s ready to go when you wake up, cover the glass tightly and give it a stir before you set off in the morning.

CAN I FREEZE IT?

Unfortunately, freezing and thawing an oatmeal smoothie will mess with the taste and texture, so it is not advisable to do so. You can freeze the ingredients by themselves in ziplock bags, and then put everything in the blender in the morning to make yourself a fresh smoothie.

NOTES

  • To Make Ahead: Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight. Stir before drinking.
  • To Freeze: If you decide to freeze, yes it is possible to be frozen for up to 3 months in a freezer-safe container. Defrost in the fridge overnight and stir well before drinking.
